Benross Tribe MDJ6 Putter Review: You need to know

A classic toe and heel weighted blade with a two-piece hollow head construction. A cavity inside the head is machined so the CG is positioned to promote true roll and maximise forgiveness. A grooved face helps grab and grip the ball at impact to get putts rolling sooner and a Lamkin Sink grip fits snugly into the hands.

Benross Tribe MDJ6 Putter Review: We say

Putter prices this year like drivers have sky rocketed. If you’re set on a new putter purchase in 2017 there’s a couple of choices. Suck it up, go premium and invest in a putter you love and intend using for years to come. Or set a budget of £100 and hunt down the best new flatstick you can find. On the surface the MDJ6 is just a typical toe and heel weighted blade.

Look closer though and there’s a couple of additions which have the ability to make a difference to your dance floor performance. An extra alignment aid on the top edge frames the ball at address, focusing attention right behind the ball. Some golfers (like one tester) will love it while others will find it a distraction. An internal cavity translates to a different sound and feel than one-piece models, but roll from the grooved face was comparable to more expensive models. Lob in a super-sized grip as standard, and all in you have a pretty impressive flat stick for less than £100.

Do putter face grooves really make a difference?

Benross Tribe MDJ6 Putter Review: Verdict

It’s incredible that a £99 putter is one of the least expensive on test, only a few years ago £49 was the benchmark. If you can put aside the price the MDJ6 is a very solid putter, even if it doesn’t quite have the exceptional quality finish of some of the larger brands.
