What we say...
Wilson Staff Di5
As Wilson re-launch the Wilson Staff brand for 2005 the Di5 takes centre stage as the firm’s game improvement club. The satin-finished head is striking and is sure to attract attention at the club and on the shelves.
The head is very big, yet does not appear cumbersome behind the ball. The large, deep cavity felt solid at impact although we were not entirely sold on the effect of the shock-dampening properties of the graphite insert.
The ball flight was one of the longer on test and we both particularly liked the understated offset, which is not pronounced, yet will help the average player get the ball airborne more easily. The notched weighting along the top edge of the irons also makes a solid strike more likely. This moves weight more to the toe in long irons to help golfers pick the ball up.
Verdict: Not a traditionally beautiful head, but a real game-improving set from a recognised manufacturer. These are very friendly clubs that hit the ball a long way – and they’re very forgiving.
