What we say...
Tech:
Right Light technology removes every last gram of mass from the golf clubs head, shaft and grip to allow players to swing faster with the same amount of effort. A new Speed Sole expands the sweet spot lower in the face where amateurs typically impact shots, and a deep cavity back maximises forgiveness to increase ball speeds and carry distance.
Our verdict:
Wilson have a decent history of producing forgiving irons that perform in club golfers hands, yet they often don’t carry credit card busting price tags. With the new D300’s price going up (because of using Wilson’s latest FLX Face tech) Wilson have realised the need to cover off their usual slightly lower price point, so they’ve introduced the D250’s. We’re always asked about how much difference tech makes well the D250’s (which are aimed at exactly the same golfer as the D300) offer the perfect opportunity for comparison. A 4mph slower ball speed and 7 yards less carry distance compared to the D300 isn’t ideal. But compared to the test average the D250 was a yard shorter and 1 mph slower in terms of ball speed which by all accounts isn’t bad at all considering the cost.
Bottom line:
An interesting less tech, equals lower price introduction from Wilson. In the real world it couldn’t quite keep up with its more expensive brother the D300 but then it was never designed too. For those wanting a decent set of super forgiving irons on a budget in 2017 the D250’s certainly stack up.
