What we say...
Tech:
The C200 irons push innovation to unforeseen limits say Wilson. They’re designed for the Crossover player seeking a midsize head shape with moderate offset, but those who also want maximum distance and the best feel in its class. Urethane filled Power Holes surround the perimeter of the head so only 24% of the face touches the body which Wilson say maximizes face flex and ball speed, yet maintains excellent sound and feel.
Our verdict:
Wilson certainly haven’t been backwards in coming forward to tell us how good they think the FLXface technology is on their C200 iron. We’d love to say it ramped up ball speeds and carry distance’s for all three testers, but that wasn’t quite the case. Yes the C200’s powerful but our stats show particularly at higher swing speeds the C200 imparts a lot of spin on the ball which means energy is spent going up rather than forward which inevitably robbed the club of some distance. As far as looks go the “Power Holes” really don’t distract attention at address and whilst there’s nothing wrong with the head shape it wasn’t any testers particular favourite either.
Bottom line:
For us the C200 did absolutely fine without being exceptional in any field. If you’re attracted to the tech we’d say to have a good look at Wilson’s D300 too. Their stronger lofts meant our testers saw a decent increase in ball speed and carry distance over the 200’s which is just what lots of club golfers would appreciate, for not much more money.
