Titleist 804.OS Game Improvement Irons Review

Titleist might make some of the best golf clubs in the world for some of the best golfers, but for some reason they’ve never really cracked the game-improvement market. And while their new 804.OS uribs are fine clubs, it’s hard to see them challenging the likes of the Big Berthas in sales terms.

You only need to look at them to see why. There’s so much less metal in the head, so much smaller cavity compared to the other irons featured on these pages, that you’re simply getting less help. It’s almost as if a serious golf club company like Titleist don’t feel entirely comfortable committing themselves to a heavy-duty cavity-backed iron.

So while these forged clubs scream quality all day long, with a pleasing oversized head shape and plenty of ‘wow’  when you get one out of the middle, they’re not quite as forgiving as some of their rivals. Golfers in the 20-something handicap category probably wouldn’t find them ideal.

If you’re an improving mid-handicapper, however, looking to enjoy the improved feel of forged heads without being quite ready for the full bladed look, they the 804.OS – or even the slightly neater 704.CV – could be just what you’re looking for.

Verdict: Rather austere looking irons that might not suit beginners but offer plenty of performance for regular, committed golfers.
