What we say...
Tech:
A modern forged cavity blade say Titleist. There’s tungsten toe and heel weighting to maintain ball speeds on off centre hits, and progressive CG locations to deliver a tour-proven shot trajectory.
RELATED: Golf iron
Our verdict:
Titleist are keen to not pigeon hole their irons into player categories, instead they insist they prefer to fit the iron to the player rather than vice versa. There’s no doubting the CB is a quality bit of kit. We love how the satin hosel and top-edge are blended with a polished sole and back to eliminate glare in bright sunlight, and yet maintain an enticing look in the bag. We reckon it’s a detail decent players will appreciate. Performance wise the CB’s 7 iron loft was 3deg weaker than some on test so it’s unfair to directly compare ball speeds or carry distance. But Chris Ryan reckoned he’d have no issues gaming the CB’s even if he found it difficult to get excited about hitting their angular boxy heads.
Bottom line:
A beautifully designed set of irons, with some game-enhancing tech thanks to the tungsten toe and heel weighting. The ability to buy individual irons means you could play the CB short irons and a more forgiving mid or long iron design to get the best of both worlds.
