What we say...

First Hit October 2013

Technology
A cavity back design with an inner cavity muscle behind the impact area produces a blade-like feel. The sole features added camber and pre-worn leading edge for crisp ground contact and less digging at entry, and a smooth sole width progression as you move through the set to enhance ground interaction. A squarer leading edge promotes a square set-up and a new hosel plend creates less visual offset. Stronger lofts through the set.

Performance
Two things stood out for me. The divots are noticeably shallow, especially in the mid and short irons. The clubhead seems to glide through the turf, picking the ball up cleanly, more easily. The second is the flight of the short irons – markedly much lower – I’d say I was getting 3-5 more yards with the 8-PW. This made short shots where accuracy is at a premium much more controllable.

Looks
It’s a clean, traditional looking iron that’s hard to dislike. I really like the satin finish; it’s classy and not overly reflective. The squarer leading edge sits nicely behind the ball and the top line isn’t too thin that it puts me off. The size and shape is ideal for a better player looking for forgiveness and workability.

Feel
Firmer than I was expecting, a solid hit but with minimal vibration. With the club coming out of the turf quickly it certainly felt like I was hitiing the ball powerfully.

One of four models that make up Titleist's new 714 family of irons, the CB model is aimed at the accomplished player who like a compact head with some forgiveness. The irons have gone through a "Tour-seeding" process where Titleist Tour pros offer feedback on initial prototypes so the designers can be refined and perfected.

4-PW available with True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts. A 2-iron is available as a custom order option.
