What we say...

The techno-packed R9 was right up there in performance. The Velocity Control Chamber boosts ball speed and consistency, while the bevelled sole helps nip the ball off tight lies with ease. Chris thought the head might be a little large for serious golfers but liked the performance while Jon was a massive fan of pretty much everything. His worst swing of the day came with the R9 and the result was still respectable.

The Taylormade R9 Irons are a very high performing set of irons. They offer distance and control in a classic shape and feature the most technology in an iron that you'll never see!

This comes in the form of the velocity control chamber which is filled with a lightweight foam and silicone shock absorber to move weight to the perimeter and dampen vibrations for superb feel and forgiveness.

They also feature TaylorMade's inverted cone technology which makes the area that produces high ball speeds off the face larger for good distance even on off-centre strikes.

The R9 irons are designed with a contoured sole for better turf interaction and an ultra-thin wraparound face in 3-6 irons for high ball speeds.

Taylormade Irons User Reviews

  • 5 out of 5 Old but Gold!

    By Hal McGonigle

In golf it is so easy for clubs to go out of date, Taylormade seem to release a new series every week! Although from 2010 I decided to treat myself to a set of irons and I have been eyeing these out since release! I am in love. The sleek look is classy and never fails to receive compliments, very modern and will not look out of place in years to come. The feel is fantastic, they come off the face with ease. If you're a fan of air these clubs can keep the ball up, maybe not ideal for those who want a mid flight from their irons. Don't let the fact that they are a few years old put you off buying these irons, you will not be disappointed.

Upgraded my exisiting Irons to the TaylorMade R9's after trying out a few differnt sets on the range. From the first hit with the 7 iron I was hooked. Although not forged like my previous irons, the feel from the club face was very good. I also found that that my 7 iron was going 20 yds further with greater height on the shot. The shorter irons have great feel around the green. I've had these R9's for nearly a year now and I have just cut my Handicap from 28 to 22 as a result in my games improvement. I hope to be in the teens later this year. The R9's have dropepd in price since I bought mine. £379 at Direct Golf at the moment (I paid £499 !!). Worth every penny.
