What we say...
Tech:
TaylorMade say the PSi golf irons are crammed full of technology. There’s an ultra thin (sub 2mm) face to maximise face flex along with a Cut Thru Speed Pocket sole and Face Slots to maximise ball speeds particularly when shots are hit low on the face. There’s a clean and confident look at address to inspire confidence and a multi-material dampening system in the cavity badge to tune feel.
Our verdict:
TaylorMade are well known for making bold distance claims for their new launches which haven’t always stood up to player testing, but the PSi certainly delivered for us. We weren’t going to talk about distance as with iron sets having different lofts its not really fair to compare, but lets make it clear the PSi recorded the joint longest average carry distance and it didn’t have the strongest loft. It goes without saying the head shapes very solid without masses of offset and we particularly liked how we hit shots 1.5cm off centre and still only lost 6 yards of carry distance.
Bottom line:
The PSi probably isn’t an out and out game improvement iron but more a blend between a better player iron and a game improvement model. Its worth remembering the 3-7 iron are cast where the 8-SW are forged which mean you get extra playability in the longer irons and more control and feel where you need it most. For us they performed superbly.
