Taylormade Burner 09 Game Improvement Irons Review

Had it not been for the stunning performance of the Mizuno MX-200, the TaylorMade Burner 09 golf irons would have walked away with the top honour – it’s just a brilliant set from a manufacturer that continues to improve on previous models.

Both of our guys felt the clubs were really well made and liked the fact the long, mid and short irons were all designed seperately, with the mphasis on different aspects depending on what paticular quality is needed.

So, forgiveness was the watchword in the 4-iron, accuracy the key in the mid-iron and responsiveness in the short-iron.

Sounds very sensible doesn’t it? And our test team believed that it was a policy which very much achieved what it set out to.

John felt that although he put a few ropey swings on the 4-iron, there wasn’t one bad result with them, a real victory for the technology and quality of the Burner.

Meanwhile Richard loved the look of the club at address, noting that they were ideal for the more discerning golfer who didn’t want to have a great big chunky set but without losing any forgiveness.

And, while the performance of th 6-iron was brilliant, it was the ease of use of the 4-iron that helped elevate the Burner past some of the other clubs in this category.

The longer stick felt almost as forgiving as the 8-iron, effectively removing the fear from tough approaches from range. A valid recommendation if ever there was one.

2010 Review:

TaylorMade engineers have designed the short, mid and long irons separately. The short irons concentrate on accuracy and precision, the mid-irons on distance while the long-irons are all about forgiveness. Alex, Colin and Craig all  commented on how nice the irons looked at address, and they certainly weren’t too chunky when it came to topline thickness. Craig thought they felt heavyish but this was a positive because they felt powerful. Colin commented on the fantastic feel. Alex felt they might appeal to better players as well as game improvers due to a sleek design and he also commented on the impressive level of feedback.
