What we say...
Skymax Sedna
Sky golf are a relatively new company who have earned plaudits from TG in the past for their terrific-value clubs. While the Sedna hybrid combo set isn’t perfect, it’s still decent and, most importantly, very well priced.
The 6-iron distance test epitomised everything that’s good and not so good about the Sednas. While the Skymax club came out a clear winner, it also proved noticeably more inconsistent than its rivals – particularly the pricier Nike and TaylorMade irons – registering distances plus or minus 10 yards of its final average. Having said that, we enjoyed feel of the Sedna irons and were both impressed by on their high, confidence-inspiring ball flight. The bladed sand wedge – much more stylish than the equivalent in most game improvement sets – is another nice touch.
The hybrid clubs both feature a little more offset than most, which should help chronic slicers but might have contributed to a tendency for our testers to pull the ball to the left. Overall, though, they were easy to hit and produced long, solid shots that would comfortably outperform the typical efforts of long-iron-wielding high handicappers. Which, in the end, is the whole point.
Verdict: At their best, one of the top-performing sets in the test – but more discerning golfers might find them a little too inconsistent.
