What we say...
Ram
Wizard II
This is another set that uses a utility club instead of a long iron and again they just don’t feel part of the set.
The irons were an improvement on the original wizard clubs, and better than quite a few on test, but the difference between the irons and the longer utility club was disappointing. The large-headed irons inspire confidence and were easy to hit from most lies and the general design of the head was good – some new graphics will catch the eye.
The problem we found with the utilities were the shafts felt too shot, which led to the clubsfeeling very light and slightly out of control during the swing. Although we hit some reasonable shots we were very inconsistent not only with ball flight but control as well. Although equipment manufacturers seem keen to progress down the hybrid route things really do need to improve to ensure consistency throughout the set.
Verdict: The irons in this set come well above halfway in our test, but the utilities let them down. At this price they are still a good set of irons worth some consideration.
