What we say...

Ping’s new 2008 range has already created interest and is bound to be a big success. All our testers liked the smallheaded i10 and comments were generally positive on both looks and performance, with a noticeably penetrating ball flight created by its low centre of gravity. The rib structure of its custom-tuning port stabilises the face and improves feel and consistency. However, due to its cast construction, the softness and feel qualities did not quite match up to many of its forged competitors, and this cost the i10 a position on our podium.

2009 Review

The Ping i10 irons are another Ping success story. Not the best looking club on test, but in terms of performance it was awesome. The thinner topline was a big hit with both testers and the ball flight was low and penetrating. Jon reckoned it was one of the consistent clubs here, while Tom found the longer iron more forgiving than most others on test, yet still with a good level of feed and workability. If you’re happy with how it sits behind the ball, its performance make these irons an esssential purchase.

    These are great irons. They are long, forgiving and workable. The perfect combination. For a cast iron they also have a great feel when struck sweetly. Having played mizuno irons previously, I haven't noticed any major differences in terms of feel. Admittedly, there are more aesthetically pleasing irons out there but if you prefer function over form I dont think think you can go wrong with the i10's (and I think I tried most of them before deciding on these).  The other great thing about these irons are the custom fit options that Ping offer.

    I recently changed to the Ping i10s having previously used Mizuno MP60s. I found the fitting service offered by the Ping retailer (Rudding Park, Harrogate) to be excellent with the pro spending time with me to ensure I got the right shafts, grips, lie angle and he also recommended a slightly stronger loft to help me with a lower ball flight. I find the clubs very forgiving compared to the MP60s and surprisingly have a lower more penetrating ball flight which I was definately looking for. I don't usually try to shape the ball and these are excellent for taking direct aim and hitting it straight there. The only slight downside is using them around the greens for short chip and runs where the MP60s give a better feel. Overall though very happy with the change.

    Have tested both clubs and ended up going for I10 irons, on recommendation of pro and the feel of the club. I play of a 10 handicap and hit these irons without a problem, but i don't consider myself to be a "highly skilled golfer". Yes they are slighlty less forgiving than the G10's, but they do get the ball out of the rough a lot easier, due to the smaller head. I think these are more for the low teens to single figure golfer than just for single figure handicappers. As for a lower ball flight as stated by Ping, i have seen no difference at all, but do seem to get an extra few yards out of them.
