Ping iBlade Irons Review: Tech

The Ping iBlade irons are used by 95% of Ping’s staff players yet it’s the companies most forgiving blade-style model to date.

With a 431 stainless steel head, with a thinner top rail, minimal offset, straight leading edge and high toe, the Ping iBlade iron is designed to appeal to the discerning golfer. Each groove and club face is precision milled to exacting tour-level specifications.

Ping iBlade Irons Review: Our verdict

Fact: Forged heads are the overwhelming choice for tour players when it comes to irons. So much so only two sets of cast irons were used by PGA Tour winners in 2016.

You might think puts the cast Ping iBlade at a disadvantage, but when you remember that is is designed for players like Bubba Watson, Louis Oosthuizen and Lee Westwood it’s no surprise the Ping iBlade performed admirably in our tests.

How does iBlade compare to Ping’s other 2019 irons?

Our data shows how the Ping iBlade iron was right on our pro’s test average when it came to ball speed and carry distance, and it recorded a tiny carry distance drop off of just 3 yards (joint lowest) between on and off centre hits, which would make for some seriously accurate shot-making on the golf course.

Ping iBlade Irons Review: Bottom line

Ping openly admit the iBlade will make up less than 10% of their iron sales, which has to say its audience is tiny. It certainly doesn’t mean the iBlade isn’t a good iron though.

It is, it’s just we reckon the extra forgiveness on offer from the companies wider soled, bigger cavity backed i200 will be much more satisfying for club golfers to live with.
