Nike Golf VR Pro Better Player Irons Review

  • At a glance

  • TG Rating 4.8 out of 5
  • Owner Rating 5 out of 5
  • Pros

Clean, compact and classic look combined with levels of forgiveness more similar to a cavity back. Better players will love the workability, too.

  • Cons

Some will be intimidated by the thin look while the shiny finish won’t be to everyone’s taste. High workability suited to controlled strikers only.

What we say...

2013 Irons Test

Like the Callaway X Forged, James, Joel and Kit noticed the abundance of grooves on the 7-iron (16 in total). You can tell it’s a blade by the compact head and thin top line. All testers agreed it was very nice to look at with its traditional shape and shiny finish. James and Joel commented on how surprisingly forgiving it was for a blade. It was soft at impact, but powerful, workable and off-centre hits held their line surprisingly well.

Kit said it was incredibly forgiving for a blade and that the thin top line wasn’t as intimidating as he thought it would be, perhaps down to soft feel out of the middle and the amazing forgiveness on mishits. This was by far James’ best performing club on test. While he didn’t hit it very far, which is understandable given it has 35° of loft, the difference between his shortest and longest shot was just one yard. Distance control was also a key factor for Joel and Kit, combined with admirable dispersion numbers and a winning look for all three testers. This iron also received the highest workability marks on test.

The Nike VR Pro Blade Iron Set will allow you to play the face of the future. All new X3X high-frequency grooves and a more precise forging process create irons that offer shot-shaping performance for the top players in the world. Each iron face features more grooves, resulting in cleaner, more consistent ball flight and spin while still conforming to new rules. From materials, to design, to construction, everything is done to eliminate variance and enhance control.

  • 5 out of 5 Best Blades Ever!! sorry Mizuno, Titelist

    By King Prawns Shaun

When I purchased these I was a 12 handicapper and now down to 8, I can assure you I'm not doing anything different. I have had these irons for nearly 2yrs and I can honestly say having played Titelist and Mizuno blades, that they don't touch the Nike blades for feel, distance (my distance has increased 10 yrds per iron) and forgiveness from a blade. minor down point ferrel's come loose every now and then and I have to re-super glue them back in. Other than that 10 out 10 really would recommend you give these ago before you £750 when you spend £500 on a better iron. Well done Nike on very happy customer.
