Pros
Compact size means it looks more like a player’s club. Long, forgiving and great value.
-
Cons
Lots of offset for a small clubhead.
What we say...
Tech:
An oversized iron with oodles of perimeter weighting, developed to deliver ultimate on-course playability. A deep cavity back, offset hosel, wide sole and thick top edge maximise forgiveness on off centre hits.
Our verdict:
Throughout our Top Gear tests we’ve talked loads about technology. And how the premium brands put tons of resources and money behind making their latest designs produce faster ball speeds, deliver extra forgiveness and of course help you hit shots further. The Icon doesn’t boast of any of the latest tech, in fact deep cavity back iron heads were made much like this 10 – 15 years ago. So as much as technology might have moved on, our testing proves how a very basic club like this can still just about keep up. A ball speed 3mph slower, and carry distance two yards shorter than the test average isn’t a bad result considering the cost, components and basic design.
Bottom line:
None of our testers loved the Icon’s big head, thick top line or sharp leading edge. Without any recognised brand names on the clubs components (shaft or grip), £299 feels like a lot of cash for such a basic set of irons.

I was lucky enough to stumble upon a new 2014 set of these icon irons with kuro kage shafts and the ball absolutely pops off of the face of these beautifully crafted irons. Perfect weighting with nice wide soles it feels amazing. These are very forgiving and for an older guy like me with a new left knee these practically do all the work. The feel, looks and performance are second to none imo.
