What we say...

Cobra Golf’s King Tec Utility Iron uses technology found in woods for more ball speed and distance.

The King Tec Utility is designed to provide added ball speed and distance from a wide variety of turf conditions for players who prefer an iron-like profile over a hybrid or fairway wood.

First impressions tell us it will be among the best utility clubs of 2023, it’s sleek and striking design immediately making us want to hit it, and that’s before we get into the tech.

The Cobra King Tec and King Tec One Length Utility irons.

The King Tec uses Cobra’s H.O.T Face Technology (Highly Optimized Topology), forged Pwrshell face insert, and a lighter and softer foam filler, which the brand say makes it longer and more forgiving.

It is an alternative to the King Tec hybrid (one of the best hybrids of 2023), which was launched at the same time, and joins the Tour, CB, MB, Forged Tec and Forged Tec X in a King irons family that targets everyone from scratch players to 20-handicappers.

Let’s take a closer look at the new model’s specifications and technology.

The King TEC Utility irons feature a classic, muscle-back style iron shape that looks superb and sits comfortably at address. It has a relatively wide sole for improved turf interaction from a variety of conditions.

A metal-wood-like construction yields powerful speed and distance through a hollow body design and a forged ST-118 PWRSHELL face insert with a longer return, internal speed channel and new H.O.T. Face technology.

Developed using artificial intelligence, H.O.T. Face features multiple zones with optimized thicknesses that increase ball speed and produce more efficient spin across a larger area of the clubface, resulting in more consistent and reliable distances when you don’t catch it out of the middle.

The tech inside Cobra's King Tec Utility Iron.

For improved acoustics and feel at impact, the hollow clubhead is injected with an even lighter and softer Expancel Microsphere Foam, which is also used in the King Forged Tec & Tec X irons to absorb vibrations and tune sound and feel. In addition, the use of extreme tungsten weighting utilizing high-density MIM (Metal Injection Molding) tungsten weights lowers the CG for improved launch and spin rates both off the tee and from the fairway or rough.  Specifically, the 2U contains 56g of Tungsten, while the 3U-5U have 61g of tungsten.

The Cobra King Tec One Length Utility iron.

The King Tec Utility is also available in Cobra’s renowned One Length, at a shorter 37.25″ – the equivalent of a 7-iron. It’s a technology that was first seen in 2017 when the brand worked with Bryson DeChambeau on the idea. Designed to promote maximum consistency and accuracy when used with a One Length set or on its own and features the highest amount of Tungsten at a whopping 83g.

The One Length model, which features a subtle logo, is only available for right-handed players.
