What we say...
2013 Irons Test
James and Joel agreed the Pro version was more pleasing on the eye and could easily fit in the Better Player category. The white grooves show up nicely on the X Hot against the shiny finish. The X Hot Pro is certainly more compact, has more grooves, less off set and gave our testers on average two extra yards of distance. Kit found the pro version hotter and more workable.
The distance debate has always centred on drivers and balls, but recently we’ve heard about big distance gains from irons. Now Callaway is saying its X-Hot irons are up to 10-yards longer than the RAZR X.
How? Both models have a thinner face for improved ball speed which, allied to a unique undercut cavity, lower the area of the face that is most flexible in order to put it in line with where most iron shot impacts occur. A lower sweetspot is designed to increase ball speed on off-centre hits. Both versions have a “Feel Management Medallion” in the cavity, to improve sound and feel at impact. More offset and a wider sole than the X Hot Pro.
The Pro verision has a more compact size and blade length, so it looks a bit more sleek, as well as less offset and a narrower sole.
