Callaway X-Forged 2013 Better Player Irons Review

  • At a glance

  • TG Rating 4.5 out of 5
  • Owner Rating Not yet rated
  • Pros

Extremely forgiving, feels soft and looks stunning behind the ball. Distance control is second-to-none.

  • Cons

One of the shorter better player irons which may put some off, perhaps down to the increased loft.

What we say...

2013 Irons Test

James and Joel liked the abundance of grooves on the face (a whopping 18 in all) along with the small to mid-size head. It does have a slightly thicker grip which was well received, as was the stock Project X 6.0 shaft. Kit and Joel noticed it is short from heel to toe, placing a premium on quality ball striking. Kit loved the shape and size and felt it was one of the most consistent and workable clubs on test. Distance control was one of the best on test here, James’ longest and shortest shots differed by just five yards.

Hot on the heels of the new X-Hot game-improver irons, Callaway has unveiled the X-Forged for the more consistent ball-striker. They have been made using a Triple Net Forging process which ensures extremely tight tolerances which Callaway say cannot be achieved with conventional methods. The long irons have a lower centre of gravity to get the ball airborne, while the CG in the shorter irons is higher to stop the ball ballooning on a flatter trajectory.
