What we say...

The new Callaway Rogue W Irons have the same speed face tech but weaker lofts, wider soles and a lighter swing weight than the other Rogue irons.

The new Rogue W Irons embody the Rogue philosophy to break away from establishe protocols to develop new ways to extract maximum performance.

These irons feature a premium multi-material construction to combine new technologies with advancements to our industry-leading technologies that Callaway say have helped them become the #1 Iron Brand in Golf. By pushing themselves to reach unprecedented performance levels, we’ve created the best combination of distance, accuracy and playability ever in a Callaway Iron.

Brands are wising up to the fact that lots of committed golfers are getting older, and their swings are getting slower – and Rogue W is directly aimed at those players; golfers who now need to hit their 6-iron instead of the 7.

There’s all the same speed face tech as the other Rogue irons, but the Ws also have weaker lofts, wider soles and a lighter swing weight to ensure they’re easy to launch and very forgiving in the hands of slower-swinging club golfers.

The truth about strong lofted irons

Callaway Rogue W Irons Review: You Should Know

All the same fast face tech, standing wave and urethane microsphere tech you’ll find in the other three Rogue irons, but with more loft and lighter swingweights. Rogue W are designed to launch higher, maximise air time and carry for golfers whose swing speeds don’t hit the red line.

Everything you need to know about iron shaft weight. And why it’s now more important than flex.

Callaway Rogue W Irons: We Say

It’s not fair how we don’t all own enough swing speed to launch the super strong lofted Rogue X irons from the turf. But if you don’t, we reckon Rogue W are well worth a closer look, as just like the Cobra F-Max they’re specifically set up to boost launch and airtime at average speeds. Simon hit the W really consistently, liking the head shape (for the SGI category) and feel. But just like we expected, even at average swing speeds, the Rogue W racked up an extra 2000rpm of backspin which it wouldn’t do at lesser swing speeds. The extra spin made it difficult for the Rogue W to compete when it came to distance or ball speeds, but in the right slower swing speed hands it would be a revelation.

Callaway Rogue W Irons: Verdict

Just like the Cobra F-Max, Rogue W are designed for a very specific golfer. If you fit the target bracket and see gains in ball speeds and carry distances by going lighter, and more lofted, you’d be foolish to not run with the idea. It goes without saying an experienced fitter would guide you down the right route for your game.

Callaway Rogue W Irons: Key Features

➤ 360 Face Cup and VFT
Rogue Irons combine their 360 Face Cup Technology with Variable Face Thickness (VFT) Technology to expand the portion of the face that delivers fast ball speed. Face Cup employs a shallow, flexible rim around the perimeter of the face that flexes and releases at impact to increase ball speed. VFT also influences how the face itself flexes to promote more ball speed on off-centre hits. The combination of these two technologies promotes ball speed and distance.

➤ Urethane Microspheres for Phenomenal Sound and Feel
The upside of a thin clubface is faster ball speed and more distance, the downside is excessive vibration that generates an unpleasant sound and feel. Urethane can be used to dampen vibration to improve sound and feel, but it can also greatly reduce the face’s ability to flex, lowering COR and ball speed. Our elastic-urethane microspheres provide the sound and feel benefits of urethane without compromising COR or ball speed.

➤ Designed For Slow Swing Speeds
Ultra-light weight with wide sole, large cavity and ultra-low CG to help slower swingers build more head speed.

Callaway’s Senior Vice President of R&D Alan Hocknell explains the technology in the Rogue irons…

➤ Four new models

Rogue irons all feature a multi- material construction, and a combination of our best new and existing technologies. The family of four models each feature a suite of technologies that work together to heighten performance for different golfers.

➤ Microsphere technology

Thin, fast face irons promote faster ball speeds, but they experience a signi cant amount of vibration, which can result in a harsh, clicky sound and feel. We’ve solved this problem with something I’ve called the ‘Swiss cheese’ effect. By infusing thousands of tiny air pockets (microspheres) into a new urethane material we dampen vibration without slowing the club face.

➤ Standing wave tech

By injection-moulding dense tungsten into intricate shapes, we positioned the centre of gravity carefully and individually for each Rogue iron. The tech also helps control impact vibration, improving feel and sound and giving an optimum launch to each set.

➤ Thin, faster faces

The Rogue’s Face Cup employs a shallow, exible rim around the perimeter that exes and releases at impact to increase ball speed. Variable Face Thickness (VFT) technology dramatically expands the portion of the face that delivers fast ball speed, giving you more distance on o -centre hits.
