Tech:

Distance with playability is what Callaway promise the Apex CF 16’s deliver. Callaway have taken the cup face that’s so popular in their woods and applied it to a forged iron. Each head is quadruple forged from soft 1025 carbon steel for soft feel. Throughout the set there’s progressive offset, sole widths, CG heights and notch weighting to flight shots easier in the long irons and add control in the short irons.

Our verdict:

Considering the Apex is now in the second year of its life cycle, it’s amazing all three testers still adored them. Don’t get us wrong the heads are a bit smaller and sleeker then some of the game improvement irons we tested but they are just adorable. So adorable we reckon they’re one of the nicest irons available in the game improvement category for years, so if you want a set now’s the time to get them as there’s every likelihood they’ll disappear at the end of 2017. From not having the strongest loft the Apex produced the longest single carry distance

(197 yards with a seven iron) and the joint fastest ball speed (with the M1) for our test pro, which is impressive as let’s not forget they have soft forged heads.

Bottom line:

If how your irons look is important to you but your game demands a good degree of forgiveness you simply have to have a look at the Apex. They are a truly beautiful set and prove game-improving tech doesn’t have to mean your irons look like shovels.
