What we say...
A well-designed, wide-soled budget iron, the Benross VX Combo OS will help the vast majority of club golfers hit higher, more consistent shots. Probably the deepest iron cavity we have ever seen, which complements a large, flat, thin face which feels superb. The longer irons give a flash of the wrap-around flange at address, reassuring you of their forgiving design without becoming ugly or off-putting. Quite a rounded shape which could put off better players, but as it’s aimed at the average player it does its job brilliantly.
The clubs are remarkably easy to hit, too. It’s a brilliant idea to offer the set with the option of long irons, rescue clubs or as a set of 5-SW to fit around your current rescue clubs. Even on the afternoon of our third day of testing we were still nailing the four iron of this set, demonstrating how forgiving and easy the clubs are to hit.
It’s a really simple design which unwittingly feels as good as anything we tested, which is probably down to the large consistently thin face. Some may argue the wider-soled short irons are not going to be as effective on shorter feel shots around greens, but we feel this is an acceptable trade-off for their great performance from anywhere outside chipping range. Add Golf Pride grips and Aldila shafts and this is an excellent quality set which proves you don’t need to pay a Tour player millions to develop game-improving golf gear for a fair price.
The Benross VX Combo OS's extremely deep centre of gravity and unique Anti Shock Cartridge make for a forgiving iron. Wide sole, power pad and slight undercut along the Thin Face Technology.
