What we say...
Tech:
A larger profiled head to deliver ultimate forgiveness and playability. An “Octaforce” crown removes ineffective weight which is repositioned to lower and deepen the CG. Crown graphics aid alignment and help boost confidence at address.
Our verdict:
We said Yonex’s XPG fairway looked super easy to hit, well its natural to think if the Z-Force is bigger it would be even easier to use. But for us its much like going back for seconds of your favourite hearty pie, chips and gravy, too much of a good thing ends up putting you off. There’s absolutely no doubt the Z-Force’s shallow face and squashed wide head improves playability. We saw it produce the most amount of spin and height of any fairway on test so if you absolutely have to have the easiest fairway to launch off the deck it could be worth a place in your bag. But for golfers with average to high swing speeds all that spin means lots of energy spent going up rather than forward so you will be robbed of a bit of carry distance.
Bottom line:
We’re all for making the game as easy to play as possible, after all its supposed to be fun. But our data shows there’s a really fine line between too much launch and spin and not enough. If you’re not careful you end up robbing golfers of the very things you’re trying to help them with in the first place.
