What we say...

Tech:

A wide body fairway to maximise forgiveness. A carbon crown frees up inefficient weight which is repositioned lower and deeper to increase MOI. A Dual Tungsten Power system increases headweight and uses a counter balanced shaft and grip plus simple physics to generate extra power.

Our verdict:

Straight off the bat the XPG looks super easy to hit, its got a wide body and what looks like plenty of loft on the face so all testers had no difficulty launching shots off the short grass. Fairplay to Yonex as they’d told us before testing how the XPG is designed for consistency and playability rather than flat out distance, and we’d have to agree. It certainly wasn’t the longest on test but its forgiveness is really well demonstrated by how our longest two shots came out of the low toe area meaning you don’t always have to hit the centre of the bat to get great results.  All three testers thought the carbon crown head sounded really strong and our test pro thought the ball flight was powerful but also forgiving, which we don’t get to hear too often.

Bottom line:

A great option for golfers that need help launching shots off the fairway. Yonex’s Dual Tungsten System was particularly well suited to our slower swinging tester and helped position the XPG firmly inside Simon’s top handful of fairways tested for club speed, ball speed and carry distance.
