What we say...

Tech:

The F5 features a refined head shape and carpenter 455 maraging steel face to increase sweetspot size and maximise ball speeds. Low and forward weighting lowers spin but maintains optimum launch conditions for maximum distance say Wilson.

Our verdict:

There aren’t too many fairways that talk up the benefits of low forward weighting as typically they’re harder to launch from the short grass. But Wilson reckon they’ve tuned the F5’s launch and spin to deliver optimal carry distance.  The promised hot penetrating flight was born out in our data as the F5 launched shots on and peaked shots out lower than any other fairway on test. Yet it still managed to post above average carry distance numbers, which is pretty impressive. The head shape wasn’t loved by everyone but we did all agree the Fubuki shaft which comes as standard is excellent quality. Interestingly our longest shots came from the low toe area while the fastest ball speeds came from closer to the centre of the face, which we reckon has to say the Reactive face is doing a job on off centre hits.

Bottom line:

In our opinion a fairway for stronger golfers who want to control and manage spin from the fairway. We liked the ability to switch loft (through the adjustable hosel) without changing the face angle massively. It gives the option of setting up the F5 as either a standard or strong lofted 3 wood for use from the tee or a more versatile 17deg 4 wood.
