What we say...
The TaylorMade R9 Fairway Wood was one of the pre-test favourites, this is the club most testers opted to hit first. In the hands of pro Chris it worked a treat and made it into his top three – he cited it as “perfect” for looks and performance off the tee. However he found the flight a little lower from the fairway: not ideal for holding greens. Kit also loved the looks and gave it a perfect score off the tee and the fairway. George and Chris N found it a little hard to get in the air off tight lies but rated it off the tee. Its nine different head positions make it arguably the most versatile on test.

I recently went to the Belfry in search for a 3-wood that offered not only length but accuracy from the tee. Not currently having one in my bag i have been using my driver for every tee shot, great for those long down the middle drives but often frustratingly leaving me with no second shot to greens. I found myself in one of the belfry's custom fitting bays in no time at all hitting in total 8 different 3-woods. Upon studying various swing speeds.. launch speed.. spin rates etc.. the one leading the pack was the Taylormade R9 15deg Stiff. Being a bit of a tech freak i just loved being able to play around with the ajustable head and believe me it works! The club feels great on impact and gave me a great feel for shaping shots in either direction. Above all.. it was the only club i tested where i felt i could really open my shoulders up with confidence of keeping the ball straight. 2 weeks on and after numerous rounds played my driver has become merly a passenger in my bag.. this 3-wood out drives most playing partners big dog with accuracy to boot. I'm finally giving myself shots into greens in regulation. I'm a true believer of try before you by.. and my experience at the belfry will definately be my starting point before buying any more clubs in the future.

Firstly the looks were fantastic hiding the technology the club holds and despite the slightly triangular head it inspired confidence. It gives a fantastic performance off the tee but off the fairway the ball flight is fairly low so perhaps difficult for holding greens. It has brilliant forgiveness and I can barely miss smashing it miles and itgives a crisp sound on the sweet spot. The adjustibility is great if you need to change the shaft or have a chronic slice or hook although I usually keep it in neutral as I would rather sort out my swing. Overall this is a cracking club for me to suit my game.
