What we say...
Tech:
An explosive and versatile fairway with a mid-size head that’s engineered to maximise launch from all lies say Srixon. An ultra hot maraging face raise’s COR by 15 points for maximum ball speed. Each club comes with three sole weights and a 12 position hosel sleeve allowing you to tailor launch and spin to your own game.
Our verdict:
Look at the F45 beside Srixon’s Z355 fairway and you can’t fail to spot the F45’s more petite and compact in size and that’s because it’s aimed at a very different type of golfer. A regular club golfer will find the head size insanely small, but believe us it’s a cracking shape and its deeper face delivers a real fierce ball flight. Two of our three testers absolutely loved the F45 whilst the other struggled with consistency due to the size, but nobody could argue it doesn’t sound and feel the business. When it comes to numbers the Srixon was well above the ball speed average for all fairways tested and just over the average carry distance, so despite its size it’s well up the performance pecking order.
Bottom line:
A top draw fairway wood that traditionalists will love. Because of its size we don’t feel we can recommend it to the masses but if you’re the type of golfer who’s been wanting a cheeky little 4 wood forever (like Simon and test pro Chris Ryan) you have to have a look at the F45.
