Technology
The big change for the adjustable i25 fairway wood can be found in the face. Tour players said they like to see more clubface when hitting from tight lies and the rough. So Ping has made the face taller, enlarging the face, and also added the racing stripes to assist alignment. A lower centre of gravity than the i20 model boosts ball speeds.
Tested
As reviewed in our 2014 Fairway Woods Test – winner of our Bronze Award: Pear shape with a shallow profile; thin at the back part. Classy matt black finish and the alignment aid on top is very effective. Ball flight was mid and ball speed was high, so I thought it might go further than it did. Heavier shaft might work better for faster swingers. One of best-looking models down to the size, matt finish and stripe on the crown. Similar feelings of power to G30. Very forgiving and more distance. Stripes help alignment and the matt finish boosts the look further. Easy to start it right and draw the ball back to the target.
