Today’s Golfer Fairway Wood Test 2011

Tested: August 2011
Testing panel:
Stuart Priestley (Belfry Pro)
Michael Gow (HCP 7)
David Connor (HCP 10)
Alan Doodson (HCP 17)

Michael said this was a good all-round club which gave him a straight ball flight while Stuart liked the compact head, although he felt his ball flight was flatter than he’d like. Alan found it a little difficult to align at address but enjoyed it off the fairway. Orka offers great custom-fit options.

Today’s Golfer Value Test 2010

High marks across the board for Orka’s entry-level range once again, showing you don’t always need to spend top money to get top performance.

Ian couldn’t get enough of this club and scored it 5/5 in every single one of his subjective categories. The only marks it dropped in Ian’s test was in distance – where it scored a measly four!

These clubs are new for 2010 and in fact they are so new we don’t know that much about them yet. Keep an eye on future issues for more details.

George Sadowski (8hcp): I liked everything about this. It was very similar to the driver and that isn’t a bad thing! It looks good, feels good and it performs brilliantly. Very consistent.

Ian Davies (15hcp): Incredible value, there’s no other words for it. I would buy this in a second. There was nothing I didn’t like about this club and I still can’t believe the price. Inspires confidence.

David Connor (10hcp): I really liked the compact head of the GS5 and felt as if there was plenty of workability potential in here. That meant I didn’t find it as forgiving as others but I’d still have it in the bag.

James Frow (Belfry Pro): I was a little bit up and down with this if I’m honest. My good shots were very good though. It was decent in terms of feel and I liked the looks although it looked a little shut at address.

VERDICT: Not far behind in terms of performance, which is a credit given its price. The team felt it was a little dead off the face.
