Today’s Golfer Fairway Wood Test 2011

Tested: August 2011
Testing panel:
Stuart Priestley (Belfry Pro)
Michael Gow (HCP 7)
David Connor (HCP 10)
Alan Doodson (HCP 17)

As is so often the case, the square shape cost the Machspeed in terms of looks. It performed well in all hands and it was Alan’s favourite – apart from the shape. David said its performance outweighed the squarer shape but pro Stuart and Michael struggled with the looks.

The new Nike SQ Machspeed fairway woods will use the power of Total Swing Aerodynamics to help golfers hit the ball further and straighter.

As with the SQ MACHSPEED drivers, the SQ MACHSPEED fairway woods are loaded with ground-breaking technology, specifically the combination of square technology and Nike’s Total Swing Aerodynamic Design.

Nike’s Total Swing Aerodynamic engineering moves air faster across the sole, over the crown and around the skirt for incremental swing speed advances.

Nike designed the SQ MACHSPEED fairway woods to optimise the aerodynamics throughout the entire swing and to deliver more speed and reduce drag.

Nike Fairway Woods User Reviews

  • 5 out of 5 Don't be put off by looks

I was fitted for a set of Machspeed irons and in the set was a 4 rescue. The rescue comes with square head and I was particulary dubious of this club and it felt very strange at address but after a bit of practice it is brilliant. A year on I needed a new 3 and 5 wood so tried the SQ Machspeed and they are fantastic!!! They are very forgiving and already having the rescue there was no issue with the square head, I actually quite like it, I'm definitley longer with these compared to my old woods and on tight courses the 3 wood definitley has the distance you need. Don't be put off by the looks and give these a try, they're excellent clubs
