What we say...
The longest 3-wood on test, by a mile. But this club isn’t just about power; you get a hell of a lot of forgiveness for your money, too. It has two tungsten weights in the sole that lower the centre of gravity, making it really easy to get balls airborne. The weights also help you to square the clubhead at impact, so you can hit balls straighter even if you have a vicious slice.
The power comes thanks to a combination of two things: first, a unique cup face design, where the clubhead and clubface are joined without weld marks, which turns the entire face into one giant sweetspot; second, MacGregor’s own shaft design adds clubhead speed.
Overall we loved this club. It looked good, sat cleanly behind the ball and sounded amazing; ball flight was bang-on, giving a feel of effortless power and control. The only reason it was pipped to the winner’s spoils was the finish – the mirrored face dazzled in sunlight and was, for us, a little distracting.
