What we say...
Cobra’s latest F8+ fairway wood has COBRA CONNECT Smart technology, an improved Baffler Dual Rail system and are designed to help all levels of golfer
The Cobra KING F8+ fairway is designed to provide golfers of varying playing abilities a choice between maximum launch and forgiveness in the F8 model, or tour preferred shaping with maximum workability and precision in the F8+ model.
The KING F8+ fairway has incorporated an improved Baffler® Dual Rail System with tighter-spaced rails with CG centered between the rails, reducing twisting and resulting in a higher amount of clubhead speed retained upon contact with the turf. Progressive Rail Heights dependent on club loft, (shallower in the 3W and taller in the 5W) provide consistent turf interaction for sweeping or steeper attack angles.
Cobra King F8+ Fairway: You should know
A slightly smaller more compact head then the standard F8, this is the model Rickie Fowler has in his own bag. A more forward centre of gravity and green Aldila 2KXV shaft help reduce spin which is perfect for stronger, harder hitters.
Cobra King F8+ Fairway: We say
We don’t make a habit of recommending ‘tour profile’ clubs to the TG audience as very often they put forgiveness on the line, which virtually all club golfers can’t do without. But every now and again one sneaks through the net because we just can’t turn a blind eye to it. And that’s how the F8+ finds its way into our Top 10 fairways of 2018.
Our test pro was a big fan, just as Cobra promised it delivered low spin (posting our pro’s lowest backspin numbers of any fairway wood), but it’s also powerful, posting a carry distance just a single yard behind the second longest fairway in our test. Our recommendation though comes as a cute little 4 or 5 wood not the three wood we tested. We reckon thanks to the smaller head and deeper Baffler rails stronger golfers will be able to rifle shots out of any lie or from the tee.
Cobra King F8+ Fairway: Verdict
We’ve all heard Peter Alliss for years say how tour players are hitting a little ‘baffy’ well this is exactly the type of club he’s described. Compared to the standard F8 the head size is tiny, but it’s one of the cutest we’ve seen, and you can’t fail to like it. The size means it won’t be super forgiving (if you want forgiveness have a look at the standard F8 instead) but if like us you like to carry more than one fairway this is an excellent second more lofted option.
Cobra King F8+ Fairway: Key Features
The Cobra King F8+ fairway provides all of the same incredible technologies as the F8, in a more compact head size that better players prefer. Furthermore, in F8+ the CG weight is front-positioned leading to a more penetrating ball flight to help higher swing speed players prevent ballooning, and to perform better in all weather conditions.
➤ COBRA’s 360o Aero™ Technology incorporates an innovative system of lightweight aero trips strategically positioned around the perimeter of the face to improve drag reduction through the downswing for increased clubhead speed.
➤ The F8 fairways feature a larger address profile that increases MOI for more distance and forgiveness on mis-hits and a shallower face that lowers CG for improved launch and speed.
➤ Additionally, a back CG weight helps promote a towering, forgiving trajectory from a variety of turf conditions. For the first time, COBRA’s mainline fairways feature an ultralight 5-ply Carbon Fiber crown, which saves nearly 13 grams in weight compared to he previous steel version, to move the CG even lower for the ultimate in distance and spin performance.
➤ Rounding out the performance technologies, a forged 475 Stainless Steel face insert boasting COBRA’s patented E9TM Technology, a variable thickness face construction designed with an elliptical pattern Sweet Zone™, creates more hot spots farther away from the center of the face for more distance on heel and toe shots.
➤ MyFly8® with Smart Pad™ technology affords golfers the choice of eight loft settings in each of two different models (3-4 & 4-5) to fine-tune launch conditions and maximise distance while keeping the clubhead square at address.
