What we say...
Callaway has extended its X-Hot wood range with the addition of the 3Deep – a low-spinning 3-wood with a 25cc larger clubhead and deeper face than the X Hot Pro.
Callaway designed the X-Hot 3Deep for the Tour’s big hitters and for players seeking a very low-spinning 3-wood to provide an option on holes where taking a driver may lead to trouble, or on short par 4s where playing for position is key.
The spark was Phil Mickelson’s desire for a fairway wood that is long enough to use as a second driver, but playable off the ground.
“With 3-woods, there are two different camps,” Luke Williams, senior director of global woods and irons for Callaway told TG. “There are players that hit their 3-woods primarily off the tee and others who use it mostly off the fairway. The longer hitters use it mostly off the tee, because they very rarely are far enough out on a par 5 to need it. This design change will allow better players to create higher ball speeds, optimal spin rates, generate a little more distance but still have a club in the bag that is ‘workable’ off the tee, and manageable from the fairway.”
