Benross Evolution R Fairway Review: You need to know
A compact head gives the Evolution a player profile and means it’s just as at home on the fairway as it is from the tee. A CT Response Channel behind the face helps reduce distance loss for off centre hits. An R-Flight Rail at the back of the head houses 12g of movable weight, allowing golfers to fine tune ball flight, boost MOI and maintain a low spin flight.
Benross Evolution R Fairway Review: We say
The Evolution R’s got a lovely compact head shape and really simple look at address. All three testers were big fans of the cracking cosmetics and solid sound. The black shaft felt shorter than lighter coloured models which we felt was a real confidence booster when it comes to launching shots from the short grass.
For all it’s sleek lines and loveliness though the Evo struggled a bit for ball speed and distance (2mph and 5 yards down on our test average) when pitted against the big boys in our test. £125 for an adjustable fairway sounds like reasonable money to us, just remember the sliding weight track is minuscule (the draw side of neutral which is most often used is no more ½” in length) so don’t expect too much influence over ball flight and by changing the loft you also open the face angle when decreasing loft and close it when adding loft, which is far from ideal.
Benross Evolution R Fairway Review: Verdict
As far as cute fairway woods go the Evolution R has got it in spades. For us it doesn’t pack quite the same punch as the very best, but then it will set you back £105 less than an M4.
