What we say...
This Wilson Spine Driver has a ‘Spine line’ support behind the sweetspot and a scooped-out crown creating what Wilson call the only truly perimeter-weighted driver on the market. The design is meant to boost MOI and provide more consistent distance. Our stats backed this up. Spin is certainly lowered to provide some zip on landing and excellent total distance.
Pro Verdict: Looks different and has an unusual impact sound. Gave me set-up confidence and is easy to hit but didn’t stand out in performance.
Tester Comments: “Quite like the design and feels very solid”… “Looks good and is very consistent”… “Unique shape actually looks great behind the ball”… “One of the best square shaped drivers I tested”.
2009, Updated Model – Review
Designed for high launch, the Spine didn’t really get the job done for our testers, especially for looks. It performed a lot better than it looked, and Jon gave it four out of five across the other three categories. Despite Chris’ comments that “There was too much going on with the head”, this was actually his longest driver on test. The Spine powered one out to 328 yards of carry.

Wilson say: The Spine driver explores today's new driver geometry to generate high MOI and a low CG with explosively long and accurate results. This is achieved by redistributing weight from the centre of the crown to the perimeter. The result is the industry's first truly perimeter-weighted driver with a higher MOI and lower CG than traditional 460cc drivers

Bought this club recently and found it easy to line the club up to the ball. Only played with it for 3 games but already it has surpassed the old club I had, and that travelled 250+ easily. It says it gives a higher flight but I have found that if placed on a lower tee it seems to respond a lot better than off a higher tee. Before I was about 20 yards ahead of my golf mates but now they have give up as it is up to 50 yards ahead, if this isn't better and it is staying mostly on the fairways, although it does move from one side to the other on each hole. I was fitted for this club, but have now found that if the uptake swing is slowed before the downforce, the response is a lot more advantageous. I have recently split the shaft on my 3 wood and will be looking to put the spine 3 wood into the bag instead

I have nothing bad to say about this club apart from maybe it sitting a little to closed. It's long and straight which many high handicappers strive for. Recently played with and man in his mid to late 20's (me being in teens) with a considerably lower handicap than mine as well as using a Taylor made burner driver and i was spanking mine at least 10 -20 yards thurther than his (straight to). Please try this club if you get chance!!!

I managed to get one of these creatures in early January and have really enjoyed playing with the club. The first thing you note is that it is actually quite lite ? However, the main thing I like is that for a smaller effort you get a bigger reward .... It seems to fly through the air so easily and I honestly believe this has given me more control. I do not get the chance to play regularly, but I have noticed a distinct improvement in my game and I am playing to around 18 instead of 22 handicap. I have also started to shape the ball flight a little. This club has given me great confidence. I had a Wilson D5d before and was averaging around 255/260, with the Spine its gone up to about 270 but most importantly I am hitting more fairways. Roll on the summer ! It looks freaky, itsounds freaky but it FEELS great !
