Srixon XXIO Hot Driver Review

There are a couple of immediately distinctive things about the XX10 (pronounced ‘Zeck-si-oh’). The first is the size of what Spencer identified as the “funky-coloured Japanese-style” head, which at 350cc is the smallest of all the drivers in this test. The second is the fact the standard shaft is half-an-inch longer than the others, which may not sound much but was noticed by all three testers. Add these two factors together and the result may not be the easiest club to use, but versions of the XXIO certainly have plenty of fans among both pros and serious amateurs.

Srixon like to consider themselves pioneers of the ‘hot’ face and the XXI0 has a reputation for being one of the longest drivers around. It’s surprising, then, that it failed to impress the FlightScope, particularly as it hit the single longest drive of the next day’s testing among the TG amateurs.

By and large, though, all the players enjoyed the powerful, responsive feeling off the face – “you know when you’ve hit a good one” was a typical, approving comment – although it wasn’t regarded as necessarily one of the more forgiving clubs tested.

Verdict: Not necessarily a club to help high handicappers, but a serious contender for anyone with more than a passing familiarity with their driver’s sweetspot.
