What we say...
Better Players Driver Test 2012 – Key Comments
JR: Very nice headshape, but sits as if it’s trying to get the ball to go left. Funnily though, it was very difficult to hit it left. Very powerful trajectory.
DW: Looks good, but maybe more of a game-improver club than some others on test.
CS: Lovely weight to the golf club, and produced a very solid feel and sound at impact.
MR: Felt good, but did notice a fairly consistent left-to-right pattern
Test
The best praise you can give to a game-improver driver is when a better player insists he’d be happy to put it in the bag. ﬔ ree HCP tester James V was immediately taken with the VR_S, saying the feedback was superb and he felt as though he was in complete control of the ball off the tee, knocking it out to his fourth longest on test.
Pro James agreed it looked very good for what could be considered a driver for mid-high handicappers but admitted he was disappointed with the feel. It received similarly positive reviews in the hands of our other testers with Jon, Dave R and Chris particularly impressed with the feel and forgiveness and Dave C commenting on the high-end components and adjustable head for less than £200.
For the first time our test team indicated that between the VR_S and the VR Pro Limited Edition, there was a Nike driver they’d stick in the bag. ﬔ at speaks volumes for how far the equipment has come in the last decade.

Nike VR clubs have 85 wins (to date) on the worldwide Tours and the new range of VR_S woods are designed to offer more speed and additional forgiveness. The Nike VR_S driver features Nike’s NexCOR face thickness technology for ultra-hot launch off the face. Effectively, this range has signalled the end of the MachSpeed series, but at this price the new product might just tick a few more boxes.
