What we say...
Tech:
Nike’s cavity back design spreads weight to the toe and heel for increased forgiveness. Flybeam technology and internal strengthening creates a more stable head while a deeper and thinner compression channel means more of the head is engaged in the flexing process at impact, directing more energy to the golf ball.
Our verdict:
The slightly wider head of the Fly (over the Fly Pro) added up to a higher launching and spinning driver for both amateur testers. Our longest shots came from both the toe and heel which has to say Nike’s cavity back design and Fly beam structure keeps ball speeds high even on off centre hits. All testers thought the Fly set up really square at address, and liked the high crown and low back design as well as the 50g Tensei shaft which is perfect for this area of the market. Really importantly the Fly also sounds really powerful at impact which isn’t always the case with lower priced drivers.
Bottom line:
Yes the heads blue, which will divide opinion but at some point the idea a drivers got to be black will change. If you can already see past the colour the Fly is a very solid all round performer for less than £250 this year.
