What we say...

Our years of testing have thrown up Nike’s drivers as powerful clubs. The Nike SasQuatch Sumo follows this trend, tying for longest club on test with an average of 302 yards.

Its fizzing ball flight just wants to eat yards and find the fairway. We didn’t immediately warm to this club, and you probably won’t either. But by the end of our test session we couldn’t put it down.

We confidently attempted to shape shots and felt reassured that mishits would not be unduly punished. You may be lucky enough to find the Sumo for less than £200, in which case we would recommend this over the Ping G5 in our £199 Driver category.

But few retailers will be selling this club for less than £200 – hence it has picked up this award.

The Nike Sasquatch Sumo is an updated version of the original, traditionally shaped SasQuatch. The centre of gravity has been moved to increase its MOI.

  • 5 out of 5 Great

I love my sumo. i got this club second hand and is fitted with a aldila proto stiff shaft. This club is great, its forgiving even off miss hits i would highly recommend it and with nike bringing a new range out soon the price is bound to come down.

I recently bought a second hand, stiff shafted 10.5 and it has changed my game - for the better. The ball flight is long and high and I am hitting more fairways in regulation. I now have to learn how to chip/punch a wedge as my longer drives leave me with shorter second shots. I found that my set up was all important i.e. big tee, left big toe, stay behind ball during swing. Apart from that grip it and rip it. Loved it so much I ordered an 8.5 degree yesterday to see if I can hit the magic 300 mark. Highly recommended.

A good all round driver, long, sits nice and squarely behind the ball and inspires confidence. Only down side was the standard shaft has far to much torque. Custom fitting easily sorts this

  • 5 out of 5 Simply Awsome

    By supercygolf

I wanted to post a comment on this club after using it for the first time, but thought I better give it a couple more go's. Having used it for about 5 times now and can confirm it is quite simply awsome. It has only added 10-15 yards to my drive, but the consistency of hitting fairway after fairway must had knocked 6-7 shots off my score. Its like using a driver with telescopic sights. The confidence you get from this club is something you can't put a price on.

  • 4 out of 5 Great club

I've played this club for several rounds now and it has made me straighter. The noise is really confidence inspiring and the stiff shaft I use has just enough to get me through the ball quickly.

  • 5 out of 5 first outstanding nike club

    By danielboundandgagged

This is the first nike club i ever considered putting in the bag, it has great feel and control. The back silver bit looks like a last second attachment but rarely do you see a traditionally shaped driver now.. I had the shaft pulled as it was half an inch shorter at 44.5 inches making the pro launch red very stiff ,so custom fitting is very important. Also had the grip changed as the stock one was very poor.On the whole a great driver after custom fitting. Sumo 9.5 nv 65 stiff 45 inch dbomber360

I have been fitted up for a 10.5 Deg Proforce UST Stiff Sumo. However delivery I was told could take anywhere between 2-5 weeks, so i ordered from LA and it came within 3 days - and for only £155!! Well - I can hit the ball up to 300yards (although not straight as often as I would like) Getting this driver has appeared inbetween having lessons, and a lot of golf practice - but one thing is certain - it is much easier to hit than the Ping - even on mishits - the ball shifts a long way, and when you catch one - the ball flight and distance are nothing short of breathtaking. Because it is so easy to hit it gives you more confidence which relaxes you. Never hit anything easier. The only thing I would say is that the face sits very slightly shut which I dont like so much - as I hit a draw. People say they dont like the sound - but for me it is one of the best things about it - everyone at the range turns to look - and just see the ball dropping at the end by the fence!

After not being able to hit driver consistanly since taking up the sport 10 years ago, I have to say that one round with the Nike Sumo has given me new hope. I used it 12 times yesterday and I only had one off drive, lost no balls and drove 2 par4's and consistanly found the fairway. I know I'm still in the honeymoon period with this club but my hopes are already high for a summer season of long drives and short iron play!!! Highly recommended.

I have to get it. Tried it out at a demo day and thought it was fantastic. Tested all the other big names as well but this was the one that worked best for me. Now going to get fitted.

After slicing for 10 years this club has finally straightened me out. Only added about 15 yards but accuracy is key for me! Get fitted out and get one!!!

was using a cobra f-speed 10.5* high flight but very little run swapped to the SQ Sumo 9.5* yellow shaft stiff, still getting a nice high flight but also lots of run and a nice draw. take it from me iv had a lot of drivers nothing comes close 5star

Tried this out (and got fitted) at a Nike demo day and loved it (using a Grafalloy Pro Launch Red). Just kept hitting it long and straight (unusual for me!), with mis-cues being only slight pulls or pushes. On the course it didn't disappoint either. It's taken a little bit of re-adjustment from my old driver, but not much. Despite the high MOI it's still workable (unlike its square sibbling). Not the prettiest of drivers and a little hollow sounding, but it goes like stink with a great trajectory. Bargain for under 200 quid.
