What we say...
2013 Drivers Test
All testers sang the praises of the classic, clean, pear-shaped head while the compactness of the head pleased the eye of better players Graeme, Joel and James. Joel liked the way the face sat slightly open at address which helped get his dispersion down to just seven yards, but this didn’t please the eye of serial slicer Chris. 2012 Drivers Test
The slightly-open nature of the head will appeal to confi dent ball-strikers with pro James suggesting this was a very hard club to hit to the left . Our man also liked the classic look of the head at address. Dave C also enjoyed the more compact head and said it helped concentration. It also led the way in dispersion with top marks and featured in the top five for fi ve of our nine testers.
So what held it back? Forgiveness and feel. When struck out of the middle of the club, this was a jamspangler but anything towards the perimeter and it was a diff erent story. Ian noted a lack of forgiveness compared to some others, while Scott also said he didn’t feel superconfident with it because of this. It suffered a little in terms of distance because of the less-impressive results from the edges of the face.
Ultimately, if you’re a better player this should be towards the top of your shopping list – but if you’re a higher handicapper who is still keen on a Mizuno product the JPX-800 might be more up your street.

Mizuno’s better-player drivers haven’t always delivered to the same extent as their superb irons, but the MP-650 might change that. the pear-shaped head will certainly suit the more accomplished golfer, and the head sits slightly open too. It also offers a very powerful impact sound, and while there are more forgiving clubs, this is worth considering if you are a better golfer.
