What we say...

Please don’t dismiss this driver simply because of its apparently low distance reading; that doesn’t tell the whole story. All three of our testers like the Eye-O-Matic quite a bit and there’s definitely more to the figures than meets the eye.

Like most MacGregor products, the Eye-O-Matic has the elegant look of a serious golf club. It sets up without complication and delivers a powerful, responsive feel at impact.

It’s certainly one of the noisier drivers we tried, but it’s a measure of how much all three testers warmed to the club that none seemed to mind the rather harsh sound too much. It certainly felt like a long club, even if, on the face of it, the stats don’t quite bear that out.

So what about that lowly position in the yardage charts? All I would point out is that it scored a little higher for the two amateur testers, and that for both pro and amateurs its average drive ranked higher than the longest drive, indicating a very high level of consistency.

Indeed, at times the Eye-O-Matic’s ability to put the ball on the same spot repeatedly verged almost of the freakish. A nice club.

Verdict: Perhaps not the longest driver featured in the overall test, but most definitely one of the most consistent – and very likeable with it.

The MacGregor Eye-O-Matic Driver combines a graphite shaft with a titanium head and is available in both right and left handed with varying levels of loft. It is aldo available in a women's version.
