What we say...

2009, Updated Model – Review

What we love about Cobra is that there really is a driver for everyone. Two of our testers used this “regulation” S9-1, while the other two used an S9-1 Pro model, which is sleeker and suited to the better player. Chris loved this, noting he felt he could “work” the ball easily with it without sacrificing forgiveness. Each of our reader testers got good distance too.

The Cobra S9-1 Driver is a club designed for anyone at any stage of their golfing career!

If you’re one of these golfers who need the club to look “no-nonsense” behind the ball, the Cobra S9-1 will have you purring – we liked the look of the L5V, but the Cobra S9-1 is a step up from that. It’s more subtle and traditional in comparison to previous models – at address it looks a little cleaner and less complicated to us which definitely helped to add a bit of confidence when hovering behind the ball. In terms of science, the 460cc club features Cobra’s “Hotter 9 points” technology as well as a Dual Rhombus face insert – which basically means there is more energy on the ball at impact, giving you greater distance. Our man certainly found that when he gave it a rip on the simulators – carry was consistently up around the 260 yard mark which is a considerable 20-30 yards longer than his usual pitiful efforts.

And whatever swing speed you, or whatever your preference in terms of shaft weight, you’ll be sure to find a suitable head/shaft combination because of the huge range of fitting options available too -the S9-1 being available in six models, including a Seniors and Offset offerings! As mentioned earlier, there is a Tour version too, the Cobra S9-1 Pro, which Australian Geoff Ogilvy put to good use when he won at the Mercedes-Benz earlier in the year. There are, in fact, two models of the Pro driver, the Pro D and the Pro S. The Pro D is ideal for those you wanting a lower, more penetrating balls flight, while the Pro S will help those wanting to generate higher launch angle.

  • 5 out of 5 got it and love

    By george anderson

had a G10 and although my friend of the same handicap hit his well i just never got on with it. after using another friends old cobra 440 i decided to look at cobras latest offers.. i was quite shocked with the results and not only cured my slice but i can now hit a draw. it may not be for everyone as my friend (the g10 owner) can't hit it as well as i do so i would advise anyone looking for on to have a good test on the range and course before parting with cash. in all its the best driver i've used and i've also got the 3 and 5wd to match, they too both hit really well.

  • 5 out of 5 the new s91 drivers by cobra.

Absolutely brilliant, so straight and forgiving and so long, im 50 years old and a 15 handicap and wanted a driver that would suit my swingspeed and also give me a slight draw shape to my drives. I went to my local golf store and tried several drivers in their computer testing facility the cobra out performed all the other drivers, so with my new cobra S91 M rated for my swingspeed with the offset head i set of for the course to use my new driver in anger. Superb,  the best money ive ever spent on golf clubs, im so impressed im going back to pick up a matching 3 and 5 wood. Thank you cobra golf.

  • 5 out of 5 9 times as good

    By willyj921

I had a Ping G2 driver but i struggled with long game reaching par 4's in three shots sometimes. Then i brought the cobra into my game after hearing the club pro mention it as his best driver he had in stock. I used it at the local range first and hit it a good 25 yards further than my previous driver. The nine sweet spots help you get distance even on the worst of shots, my g2 lacked the power to do this. I have been driving well and my handicap has plumeted from 14 to 7.

Had a crack with one of these at my local range/AG shop...   Early impressions are: I love it... so so long and really forgiving.. and it's a nice clean shape and look,,,,. I have always loved Cobras but have strugggled to get a driver that will hit it as long as my old King Cobra 440SZ... now illegal... I think this puppy will come close!
