What we say...
Cobra Golf’s King LTDx drivers with variable face thickness for exceptional ball speed.
JUMP TO: LTDx LS | LTDx Max | LTDx
Cobra’s new family of golf clubs saw the brand ask real-world golfers what they wanted from the models. Unsurprisingly, the top three consumer desires from the drivers were more distance, more accuracy, and better forgiveness which all of the best drivers in golf aim to do.
So Cobra’s designers turned the clock back to 2016 to take inspiration from one of Cobra’s best drivers – the King LTD driver – the first big stick to achieve zero CGna (getting the Centre of Gravity below the Neutral Axis) for low spin and fast ball speed performance.
Fast forward to the present day and the King LTD legacy has evolved (substantially) into the King LTDx golf driver, the first big stick to combine zero CGna and 5,200 MOI. What does that mean for you and I? The dream combo of faster ball speeds with extreme forgiveness.
The LTDx drivers feature PWR-COR Technology, which uses multi-material internal and external weights to reposition as much weight low and forward as possible to lower spin and deliver powerful ball speed upon impact.
Using machine learning and CNC machining, Cobra’s engineers have replaced the E9 face with a new variable thickness H.O.T Face (Highly Optimized Topology) that is precision tuned for speed.
Using data from thousands of impact simulations, Cobra have optimized thicknesses in 15 different zones to maximize ball speed across a larger area of the face. These zones create visual peaks and valleys that resemble a topology map, hence the design name.
In addition, the LTDx drivers utilize a multi-material construction, with up to 30% more carbon fiber than the previous RadSpeed driver models, and a lighter and stronger titanium chassis to maximize stability.
Cobra’s engineers have redesigned the previous T-Bar chassis, moving more titanium lower to the ground and around the perimeter edge to lower CG and increase MOI, resulting in eight grams of weight savings.
Let’s take a closer look at the LTDx drivers.

Cobra LTDx Driver Reviews
To ensure the new driver’s performance can be optimized for all types of players, it’s available in three distinct models – the low-spinning LTDx LS, the uber-stable and draw-biased LTDx MAX, and the LTDx, which blends the LS and Max into one driver for low spin and max forgiveness.

The new LTDx LS driver positions most of its weight low and forward to deliver low spin and faster ball speeds. The result is a more workable ball flight desired by lower handicap golfers with faster swing speeds.
An adjustable weight system features a 10g and 3g weight that can be exchanged to either the front heel or toe to fine-tune trajectory. A traditional 460cc shape features an aggressive aerodynamic design that allows players with faster swing speeds to maximize their clubhead speed for increased distance.
The PWR-COR Technology positions as much weight low and forward using a 14g internal MIM steel weight and a 5g 100% milled, stainless steel external weight (19g total) to lower spin and increase speed. Combined with the 13g of moveable weights, LTDx LS has an impressive 32g low and forward.
The H.O.T. FACE technology creates 15 unique zones to maximize and tune ball speeds across the face, which greatly improves performance on mishits.
The LTDx’s performance is further improved by the multi-material construction, which utilizes a redesigned, eight-gram lighter titanium chassis that allows for up to 30% more carbon fiber and more discretionary weight to reposition low and forward in the PWR-COR weight.
Cobra King LTDx LS driver: Today’s Golfer driver’s test verdict
Having the long hitting Bryson DeChambeau on staff at Cobra must present some major issues for anyone who happens to be one of the brand’s driver engineers.
Of-course you’d always want DeChambeau playing this year’s new driver model (unfortunately DeChambeau very publicly let the brand know that he thought the previous RadSpeed driver was ‘junk’), but by making a model so tailored to his super quick speeds you end up creating a driver that’s almost unplayable for anyone else.
It seems a reasonable bet that Cobra tried to hit a sweetspot with the LTDx LS and that lays somewhere between what most low spin driver players want and what DeChambeau needs.
We can’t take anything away from the LTDx LS because its numbers are very good (tied 3rd longest). It’s also a lovely looking and great sounding driver too. But our test pro did say he felt like he had to work harder than with most other drivers to get the very best out of this model.
And when you compare it to the brilliant standard LTDx which was much more friendly and forgiving (it cut carry distance drop-off by 50% compared to the LS), it’s clear which of the models most club golfers should be choosing this year.

Lofts 9º, 10.5º, 12º | Lengths Standard (44.5″); Tour Length (44.5″) | Adjustable Yes (+/- 1.5º) | Women’s Yes | Left hand? Yes | Stock Shafts Project X HZRDUS RDX Blue 60 (S – 9º only); HZRDUS Smoke iM10 60 (S, R); UST Helium Nanocore (L, R – 12º only) | Stock Grip Lamkin Crossline (58+) Black/Silver
The LTDx MAX combines maximum stability and maximum draw bias into one driver, both individually achievable using the moveable weight system.
The MAX features a slightly oversized 460cc profile over the LTDx to provide maximum distance and forgiveness. An adjustable back weight and an added heel weight gives golfers additional draw-bias to help you square the face at impact.
The 10g heavy weight can be positioned in the back to deliver Cobra’s most forgiving and stable driver. Alternatively you can position the heavy weight in the heel for 11 yards of draw bias. The adjustable hosel has a ‘draw’ setting for an additional seven yards (18 yards total).
As with the other two LTDx Drivers, the Max features PWR-COR and H.O.T. FACE Technology with multi-material construction.
The LTDx MAX Driver is also available in women’s edition (10.5º, 12º) featuring a sleek gloss black/elderberry colourscheme with a UST Helium Nanocore 4F1 shaft.

Cobra King LTDx Max driver: Today’s Golfer driver’s test verdict
Many moons ago, Cobra used to be the go-to brand for more average swing speed players. Our results highlight they could be heading back in that direction.
The Max is a really friendly driver and we love that it’s super forgiving and a draw biased option, making it a very versatile choice. If you think the Max could be right for you, make sure you choose your shaft carefully in a regular flex, as there’s a huge amount of difference in performance between the HZRDUS Smoke and UST Helium.
While we have the model in the Draw category, it can also be a super forgiving option, so we tested in that set-up with our test pro. If you happen to be an average or above speed player, our test pro’s numbers suggest (with the same stiff-flex HZRDUS Smoke shaft and weight in the back port, not the draw position) the Max gives up 3.3mph of ball speed compared to the standard King LTDx, and that equates to 11 yards of carry distance. That’s a lot and it highlights brilliantly the price paid for playing a more forgiving back weighted driver.
The Max is a lovely forgiving or draw option. There’s no longer a shot tracker in the grip, but it still represents excellent value for money in our book.

The LTDx is a true driver unicorn – it is the first driver to achieve zero CGna and a high MOI at 5200. It is aimed at players that want maximum speed and distance but also value forgiveness and a straight ball flight.
A slightly oversized 460cc clubhead is constructed with the perfect balance of internal weighting to deliver the fastest ball speed with slow spin and maximum distance.
It utilises 19g of total weight positioned in PWR-COR (14g internal MIM steel weight & 5g external CNC Milled stainless steel weight) and 15g total in the back using 5g of tungsten and a 10g fixed back weight. Like all models in the new family of drivers, the LTDx features COBRA’s innovative H.O.T. FACE Technology and a MULTI-MATERIAL Construction, affording optimal CG and MOI for increased distance and improved performance.
The LTDx Driver is also available for junior’s model (12º, RH only) and includes a free shaft upgrade as they grow into their game (39”, 8-9 years; 41”, 10–11 years; 43”, 12-14 years).

Cobra King LTDx driver: Today’s Golfer driver’s test verdict
The LTDx may be built on an improved titanium and carbon-fibre chassis, in line with the previous two Cobra drivers, but our test pro’s stats reveal it has moved on massively in terms of performance.
The LTDx was tied for second (with the Callaway Rogue ST Max) for fastest ball speed, first and second at protecting ball speed and carry (within this category) respectively, and it was also our pro’s second longest forgiving driver; an undeniably impressive performance.
To add to the cracking performance, we’re also big fans of the bullet-shaped head, which looks fast and forgiving at address, and were impressed how Cobra’s engineers have removed the ridge that ran around the perimeter of the CNC-milled face on previous models.
It’s a very sleek, attractive option – and a decent chunk cheaper than most of the competition this year.
