What we say...
Tech:
The King’s neutral CG say Cobra means more distance through higher launch, less spin and more ball speed. A 16g “Spaceport” weight allows you to see inside the driver head and increases MOI for extra forgiveness. A speed channel around the perimeter of the face maximises ball speed, and there’s a carbon crown to remove ineffective weight from high in the head.
Our verdict:
Sound can be everything when it comes to drivers. Some golfers love a high pitched ring at impact as every drive sounds like a good one, where others prefer a more muted duller sound as it’s perceived more powerful. Well the King Ltd was certainly more muted than Cobra’s other drivers, and our test pro reckoned the head felt more stable no matter where he hit shots on the face. Now we can’t say that Cobra’s neutral CG added yards to our drives (even though it was well above the average driver carry distance) or drastically improved ball speed but it was incredibly consistent pitching drives repeatedly in the high 10% of each testers longest carry distances.
Bottom line:
It’s hard to say why but the King Ltd wasn’t any testers favourite Cobra driver. It performed very solidly without being exceptional for us. The lack of weight adjustability at such a premium price is a bit of a drawback, even if you can see inside the head.
