What we say...
Everyone likes the look of the Cleveland Launcher. There’s something about its golf shaft and huge silver head that golfers immediately take to. Pro Spencer grabbed it excitingly saying “I’ve been waiting to try this one,” while both amateurs were also taken by the look of the club at address. Although there were other 460cc drivers in the test, somehow the Cleveland seems the biggest, most confidence-inducing by miles.
After testing, however, opinions diverged. All three enjoyed the lively feel off the face at impact, but while the pro achieved impressive distance, neither of the amateurs thought they were getting the best of the amateurs thought they were getting the best from the club and yardages were a little down as a result.
Consistency also proved hard to achieve. And if you’re not hitting it as far as you feel you ought to, suddenly the high-pitched, slightly hollow impact noise sounds a little annoying.
So, despite its large head, the 460cc Launcher feels like a club for golfers with higher swing speeds. It’s possible that the 400cc version might just prove more manageable than the 460 for average golfers.
Verdict: It looks good and feels good, but results were definitely better for the pro than the amateurs. Slower singers should definitely experiment with a different spec.
The Cleveland Launcher 460cc Driver is a Driver for golfers with a high swing speed.
