What we say...

The Tech:

The GBB’s forged composite crown removes ineffective weight from high in the head and means Callaway’s engineers have been able to create a 10g sliding perimeter weight so you can dial in either a draw, fade or neutral shot bias. The lightweight chassis and R-Moto face ensure ball speed retention is high no matter where shots impact the face.

Our verdict:

Callaway launched the GBB last year and its sell was how it incorporated all the companies best technology into one driver. Testing it along side the new XR 16 clearly showed how tech’s moved on since the launch. As far as looks go the GBB is fantastic at address, its got a really square and reasonably deep face and fairly wide head, which all three testers really appreciated. In terms of performance as expected the head speed is a little down on the new XR 16 but you do get an adjustable perimeter weight. We thought positioning the weight in a neutral position (between the draw and fade bias) helped improve MOI to maintain ball speed on off centre hits.

Bottom line:

A lovely looking and performing driver. It didn’t compete for any tester at the very top table for distance but it is particularly stable and consistent which for us makes it a very solid all rounder.
