2009, Updated Model – Review
This got some strange looks from the test team – Chris wasn’t a fan at all – but all four guys loved the performance. Jon gave it full marks in every department apart from looks and also sent one out to 247 yards – one of his longest. If you like a driver to make a definitive thud at impact, this is your baby. Oh, and it comes in a Draw version too – perfect for slicers everywhere!

The Callaway Big Bertha Diablo driver is an incredibly fun club as it has a huge sweet spot, making it almost impossible to slice or hook, whilst gaining some serious distance down the tee!
Callaway have designed this to be a monster on the golf course! The Hyperbolic Face Technology significantly imporves ball speed across the driver's face, generating more distance - even on off-centre hits. Designers have redesigned the clubhead to help golfers square the clubface at impact and hit it straight! The Callaway Big Bertha Diablo has striking graphics and will appeal to golfers who want to be seen and heard!
The fiery red finish won't be to everyone's liking, but it certainly floated our boat. But it was only when we hit it that we realised how much fun this club was.
Basically, it features the massive sweetspot that we have come to expect from Callaway, but it also has something else...accuracy. The manufacturer reckons that Diablo is ideal for those of us who like to "give it a rip" off the tee, and especially when we swing more aggressively than normal.
As for the physics, the Diablo benefits from 'Hyperbolic Face Technology', a design which helps to incrwase the size of the sweetspot, while the so-called 'Edge Technology' means the Callaway wizards have moved weight in the head to maximise MOI. All in all, this is a long son of a gun, and you won't be missing many fairways with it.
And if you like all your gear matching, you'll be pleased to hear there is also a fairway wood, a hybrid, irons and balls in the Diablo range!
Happy days!

Finally a driver I can hit total confidence off the tee with great, straight, long hits boosted my game and dropped my handicap overnight from 22 to 14. Amazing.

"WOW", thats all you can say about this driver.... Diablo Tour 9.5 Degree with Voodoo SV56 Stiff shaft, this club is so hard to hit a bad shot with.. It seems to go long and straight however you hit it and with a great ball flight... On offer at American Golf, £109.... (shaft worth £150 alone).....

In general I don't get on with Callaway clubs, because I tend to hit the ball with a draw, Their anti-slice set ups just turn my normal slight draw into a hook. However I tried the BB Diablo Driver in neutral and draw versions at a Callaway demo day and fell in love with the neutral version. It is easy to hit, the ball flies long and straight, with a nice trajectory. It also makes a nice and not too loud sound when you hit the ball Finding a neutral version to buy proved to be slightly difficult, as only the draw version seems to be commonly stocked by retailers. Eventually I found one on display at American Golf and was able to negotiate a good part exchange deal on it against my previous driver. It has been in my bag for over six months now and for the first time in my life hitting a driver has become easy. Before I had this club, I very often tee'd off with a 3 wood if the fairway was at all tight, especially if there was trouble on the left. I suppose the only downsides are its garish red colour scheme and that several threads have pulled on the head cover.

At first, I thought this driver looked a bit odd. The back of the club is a bit pointy when you look down at it from address.../ but it always went really well.... now I am used tot he look if it and I totally love this club... It's forgiving and sounds great when you get one out of the middle!

Bought this to replace the Taylor Made Burner 09 as whilst it was a great club, I found the stock shaft was too long for me at 46.25". Decided to swap for the Diablo and it was the best decision I've made. With so many manufacturers now producing longer shafts it's nice to see Callaway have remembered that not everyone is 6ft tall and can handle these clubs. So at 45" the Aldila shaft is excellent and so much easier to control. The Diablo is long and very forgiving and I'm hitting more fairways per round than I was. A great buy and essential for the 18+ handicapper!
