What we say...
Tech:
A low and back CG weight maximises MOI and optimises launch angle for increased carry distance in the HTX say Benross. There’s also a CT Response channel in the sole to improve ball speeds across the face and a Kuro Kage Black shaft comes as standard.
Our verdict:
We’re not quite sure how Benross have pulled it off but to include a Kuro Kage Black shaft in the HTX as standard and get it to market for £129 is seriously impressive. We thought the wide almost pear shaped head looked like it had more loft than the stated 10.5deg which is never a bad thing and added up to delivering the highest launch angle of all the drivers tested. With so much energy being used up creating a high forgiving flight though its no wonder the HTX returned average carry distance numbers. Don’t be put off by this though the extra spin is exactly what the vast majority of golfers need to maximise carry distance.
Bottom line:
At £129 for a driver you can’t go far wrong with the HTX in our eyes. There’s some tech in the head to optimise spin, launch and ball speed which when combined with the very solid Kuro Kage shaft takes some beating at this price.
