Pros
Flawless look and a powerful feel that transfers into yards. Compact shape will appeal to lower handicappers, too.

Cons
High handicappers may be put off by compact shape. Yellow trim is a bit lairy.

2013 Hybrids Test
All of our testers praised the slimline look of this club at address. James also enjoyed the shallow clubface and consequently low profile and also said the ball definitely came off the face hot and fast. He found it easy to curve the ball onto target, but more difficult than others to hit a straight shot.
Matt liked the combination of the yellow and black and found he achieved a consistent flight and distance on well-struck shots. This reward for his efforts really appealed to him. The compact head size was also a winner for Antony. He felt it was the perfect size and shape for a hybrid and also enjoyed the powerful “thud” at impact. This was one of James’ longest hybrids on test, averaging more than 230 yards of carry.
The VXF is 15 per cent larger than its VMS predecessor and is designed to help you out of trouble regardless of the lie. It is also designed to fit neatly into the VXF iron range to complete the perfect combo-set without breaking the budget.
Yonex have impressed with genuinely premium products – such as the Ezone woods and forged irons – in recent years, but they haven’t ignored the gameimprover market with the VXF hybrids. Here, now, are updated versions.
While the new clubs may do little to please better players, what they will do is offer exceptional forgiveness to those of us who struggle with consistency.
The new hybrid features a head which is 15 per cent larger than its VMS predecessor, helping to increase the size of the sweetspot while also raising the moment of inertia. The Variable Thickness design of the sole also improves contact with the ball, avoiding the face snagging on grass before impact.
Yonex have also developed a lightweight, high-stability HS750 graphite shaft that transfers maximum energy to the clubhead for a solid feel at impact.
Overall, these look a solid option at a very good price point, especially if you struggle to get the ball airborne.
Lofts: 20°, 23° or 26°.
Shafts: Stiff, regular or super light graphite.
