READER TEST: PAYNTR Golf shoes

PAYNTR GOLF’s footwear has been built to enhance the performance of the golfer, focusing on how the golfer achieves more speed through better traction.

By harnessing ground reaction forces more effectively throughout the golf swing, the three-dimensional traction and propulsion technology in the shoes delivers golfers more clubhead speed and more power to the ball.

We asked four TG readers to put the latest PAYNTR Golf shoes to the test.

What was your first impression of the PAYNTR?
Very impressed. Loved the look, feel and also the weight. Even with spikes they felt light.

How was the performance?
Very easy to walk in, and you definitely feel connected to the ground when swinging. Weather was dry and warm and they ventilated well. Didn’t have any rain so can’t comment on that aspect.

Did the shoes feel comfortable out of the box?
Superb. I was immediately impressed by the quality, and the style and colours. Fit felt great straight away, the tongue and the heel (I’ve never worn shoes with a heel like that) felt very soft and secure.

Have you seen any initial differences in your technique/play since wearing them?
I definitely feel more connected with ground and far more conscious using my legs in conjunction with the ground.

PAYNTR Golf is focused on how the golfer achieves more speed through better traction. Did you find the shoes delivered on this?
I’ve not noticed it in the time I’ve been wearing them.

Are there any particular features that or stand out about the shoes?
The colour, grey/black red trim. The tongue is unbelievably soft and supple. The heel fabric and technology is easy to slip into and very, very comfortable.

With all its technology and innovation, do you think they are they good value?
At £169 I’d buy them. FootJoy and Ecco are my normal brands and so normally spend upwards of £160.

Will you continue to wear your PAYNTR shoes and would you recommend them to others?
Definitely to both. I’ve already had a few “Where did you get them, they look great!” comments.

What was your first impression of the PAYNTR?
Love the black and red combo, very Sunday Tiger. Shoes look great and have a nice low profile on the sole. The mix between trainer and traditional shoe is blended perfectly. I have had some shoes that stand a little taller, which is no good for me.

How was the performance?
Performance is very good, grip is very good; with the different angled grips and the screw-in studs they feel very stable through impact.

Did the shoes feel comfortable out of the box?
Out the box the shoe felt true to size. I would prefer to go for a half-size bigger as the inside is very, very padded and will allow for hot feet to swell. But the shoes performed very well. Straight out the box I played 27 holes and they were incredibly comfortable. No blisters at all.

Have you seen any initial differences in your technique/play since wearing them?
Not really. As a lower handicapper comfort and stability is key. I usually stick to FootJoy or more recently Gfore as they are comfortable and very grippy; PAYNTR is the same. I found that even in cut grass the PAYNTR didn't get clogged up which was a big plus.

PAYNTR Golf is focused on how the golfer achieves more speed through better traction. Did you find the shoes delivered on this?
You cannot question the grip. I have suffered with plantar fascitis so sometimes a shoe doesn't deliver. These felt very sure, sturdy and springy through impact. Have I gained speed? Probably not. Have I gained confidence in them? 100%.

Are there any particular features that or stand out about the shoes?
I like the lower profile sole thickness and the stiffer sole underneath. Visually, the bottom looks great with the green logo on the dark opaque sole. I haven't played in spikes for a while, but the blend of the soft spike and spikes is fantastic.

With all its technology and innovation, do you think they are they good value?
I think they can compete for sure. At £140 the brand deserves more traction in a crowded market with massive brands in it.

Will you continue to wear your PAYNTR shoes and would you recommend them to others?
Yes I will, and I'd like a white pair for the summer. I have already recommended to chaps I play with.

Price: £129.99/$166.05
What was your first impression of the PAYNTR?
I’ve got a very modern look, clean and simplistic. I like the fact that they don’t have any garish colours as they will go with any outfit you are going to wear. And the packaging the shoes came in was absolutely fantastic.

How was the performance?
Traction was brilliant, lockdown through the midfoot was also very good and comfort levels were great. I had no slippage when wearing them on the fairways, rough and in bunkers. Normally, I don’t wear spikeless shoes, as I worry that there will be a lack of grip in difficult situations. However, traction was brilliant.

Did the shoes feel comfortable out of the box?
1,000,000%. I wore them for two lots of nine holes before using them in my 36-hole county championships on an extremely hilly course. They’re most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn!

Have you seen any initial differences in your technique/play since wearing them?
Not in technique, but I have definitely seen a reduction in how much my ankle hurts after playing golf. Having ruptured all the ligaments in my right ankle two years ago, joint pain is something I have to deal with after completing every round of golf. However, since wearing these shoes I’ve had no pain whatsoever.

PAYNTR Golf is focused on how the golfer achieves more speed through better traction. Did you find the shoes delivered on this?
I saw no speed benefits to my golf swing while wearing the shoes, but I understand from a construction point of view how the carbon-fibre plate and the insole will add spring to any foot movement.

Are there any particular features that or stand out about the shoes?
Comfort, comfort, comfort, comfort! I was absolutely flabbergasted by how comfortable these shoes were straight out the box.

With all its technology and innovation, do you think they are they good value?
Everything within the golf sector now is increasing in price. I think that the price of the shoes in comparison to top and golf shoes from other brands is pretty fair.

Will you continue to wear your PAYNTR shoes and would you recommend them to others?
I will continue to wear the shoes, and have already recommended them to my friends, playing partners and members of our club.

Price: £109.99/$140.50
What was your first impression of the PAYNTR?
The shoes felt very light when I took them out of the box, and it was clear they are made from an incredibly soft material. I was excited to try them out on the course.

How was the performance?
I was very impressed with the shoes overall. They were comfortable, a superb fit, and gave me incredible stability, especially on shots where I use the most power, such as driver off the tee.

Did the shoes feel comfortable out of the box?
Very much so. I have a hard time finding golf shoes that fit well (my feet and ankles are affected by a heart condition), so I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and supportive these felt, especially around my heels.

Have you seen any initial differences in your technique/play since wearing them?
Not really, but I’ve been playing for 25 years, so I think it would take a lot to change my technique.

PAYNTR Golf is focused on how the golfer achieves more speed through better traction. Did you find the shoes delivered on this?
Absolutely. The grip these shoes provided was brilliant, I felt very stable every time I hit the golf ball, and thanks to the grip, I felt very confident when climbing out of steep bunkers or walking down slopes.

Are there any particular features that or stand out about the shoes?
The soft padding around the heel was very beneficial for me.

With all its technology and innovation, do you think they are they good value?
Yes I do, I feel like they are a pair of shoes that would last a long time.

Will you continue to wear your PAYNTR shoes and would you recommend them to others?
Definitely!
